About Goomy

Goomy, a fascinating Dragon-type Pokémon, captures attention with its slug-like appearance. It features a lower body in light purple and an upper body in a paler purple shade. Five large green spots line the division between these colors, marking its mouth. Goomy’s head sports two pairs of antenna-like horns, with the hind pair being longer. These sensitive horns help Goomy explore its environment.


Unique Features of Goomy

Recognized as the weakest Dragon-type Pokémon, Goomy’s body is primarily composed of water and is coated with a germ-filled mucous membrane. This slippery layer deflects physical attacks effectively. However, Goomy is highly susceptible to dehydration and must remain in moist, shady areas to survive. Its antennae possess powerful sensors to detect enemies, ensuring its survival. In the anime, Goomy is shown to feed on leaves.


Evolutionary Path of Goomy

Standard Evolution

Goomy evolves into Sliggoo at level 40, and Sliggoo evolves into Goodra at level 50 during rain in the overworld. In Generations VII and VIII, foggy conditions also facilitate this evolution. Rain generated by moves or abilities like Rain Dance and Drizzle does not trigger Sliggoo's evolution into Goodra.

Hisuian Evolution

In the Hisui region, Goomy evolves into Hisuian Sliggoo at level 40. This form evolves into Hisuian Goodra at level 50 under rainy or foggy conditions. The iron-rich waters of Hisui cause Goomy's mucus to react, forming a metallic spiral shell.


Special Moves and Abilities

Goomy and its Hisuian forms are the sole Pokémon capable of learning the move Shelter. Until Generation IX, they were the only Pokémon with the Ability Gooey.


Major and Minor Appearances

Ash's Goomy

Goomy first appeared in the episode "A Slippery Encounter!" where Ash caught it. It evolved into Sliggoo in "An Oasis of Hope!" and into Goodra in "Good Friends, Great Training!"

Additional Appearances

Goomy has also appeared in episodes such as "A Fashionable Battle!" and "Mind-Boggling Dynamax!" where it was spotted in the Wild Area.

Inspirations and Naming

Goomy's design is inspired by soft-bodied gastropods like slugs and nudibranchs. Its Dragon typing and evolution may be a nod to the "blue dragon" sea slug or the concept of living slime in popular culture. Goomy also resembles the prehistoric wiwaxia. The name "Goomy" combines "goo" with "gummy" or "slimy."


Pokémon GO Community Day Featuring Goomy

Event Information

The upcoming Goomy Community Day is set for Sunday, June 9, from 2 PM to 5 PM local time. During this period, Goomy will appear more frequently, providing players with bonus candy and Stardust for catching Pokémon.

Shiny Goomy

Goomy can appear as a Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO. While the Shiny odds are not increased, the higher spawn rate during Community Day improves the chances of encountering a Shiny Goomy.

Evolving Goomy

To evolve Goomy into Sliggoo, players need 25 Goomy Candy. Evolving Sliggoo into Goodra requires 100 Goomy Candies and rainy weather or a Rainy Lure Module. Evolving Sliggoo during Community Day grants Goodra the special Charged Attack Thunder Punch.
